HERCULES and WOLF claim top spot!

13 Jan 2013

SINGAPORE - THE LEGEND OF HERCULES claims the top spot this weekend with the edited R21 version of THE WOLF OF WALL STREET coming in behind in the runner-up spot.

HERCULES starts with US$394,887 from 25 screens for a hefty US$15,795 screen average. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET proves that a higher age restriction and a 3-hour runtime isn't going to dampen its box office results as it becomes the first film to gross more than US$20K per screen this year. The Martin Scorsese pic scored a US$20,026 screen average from 15 screens for a strong US$300,389 gross. That's already more than what EVIL DEAD, the top R21 rated film of 2013 grossed (US$288,887).

THE FOUR 2 四大名捕 II debuts with US$134,132 from 9 screens for a mighty US$14,904 screen average. The last instalment in 2012 started with US$207,004 from 23 screens for a lower US$9,00 screen average and a US$424,428 final tally.

The Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro boxing comedy GRUDGE MATCH failed to attract much of an audience with only US$76,332 from 28 screens for a weak US$2,726 screen average and a US$77,896 to date (including sneaks).

Other debuts include the Mandarin action period flick, ONCE UPON A TIME IN SHANGHAI 恶战 (US$69,671/17 screens); the comedy JACKASS PRESENTS: BAD GRANDPA (US$60,721/10 screens); one of Paul Walker's final screen appearances, the disaster drama HOURS (US$44,116/14 screens) and French drama THE NUN (US$2,025/1 screen).

Overall, the box office grossed US$1,376,432, a 11.6% dip from the last weekend and a 17.6% drop from the same frame a year ago when GANGSTER SQUAD took command of the top spot.
